We have got some BIG news to announce... Cornish waterman, twice English men’s champ and internationally renowned big wave surfer, Tom Butler, has signed with Osprey!

Tom will be involved in some exciting new projects over the coming months, endorsing Osprey winter suits on his big wave travels, testing our brand new Triathlon Suit and using our dive gear to train for the tougher endurance test of competing in big swell! Tom will also be working with our UK design team to develop his own signature wetsuit which will be available as a limited edition model. Besides his involvement in big wave surfing Tom will also be using Osprey S.U.P's in his paddle boarding competition appearances. Commenting on his becoming an Osprey team rider Tom had this to say:

"I’m stoked to be representing Osprey for the coming year! The range of Osprey equipment really matches up nicely with what I’m doing at the moment with my big wave training and surfing. From wetsuits, to SUP, dive equipment to tri suits…it’s nice to be involved with a brand that covers everything, not just a surfboard and a wetsuit.”

He added: "I’m enthusiastic to progress with the guys at Osprey, help develop their ranges and work with their local design team to create some cool products!”

 Osprey sign Tom Butler

Tom is a local Cornish lad who grew up in Newquay and started his love affair with the ocean at age 9 when he started riding on his father’s board. Ever since then the sea has almost become a part of his genetics and at age 11 he had already started competition surfing! The rest pretty much fell into place and Tom won 8 UK titles from ages 12 to 18! As an adult Tom has won the Men’s English title twice at ages 19 and 21 respectively. Not satisfied with all this at such a young age Tom has since turned his attention to the international scene and in particular the big wave scene.

In 2011 he was offered an award in recognition of the biggest European barrel caught on camera! Something that the best competitors in big wave surfing took note of. Paul O’ Cane organiser of the Irish Billabong Big Wave event commented:

"Tom’s rated as one of the brightest talents to be emerging out of Europe, for his big wave surfing performances, along with his current big wave tow partner they are the youngest and most successful Big Wave team in Europe.”

We couldn't be more excited to have a guy like Tom on board with us, he is an exceptional role model for British surfing, and out of the water is an ambassador for charity as well notably for the highly publicised Joe Way Appeal. He is a true athlete in all senses of the word and we look forward to some energising and radical times ahead as he sets off on his travels around the globe in search of the biggest wave on record…and riding it!

Of course we’ll bring you all the buzz from Tom’s escapades right here, so watch this space...
